Before I was guided to bead embroidery I knew one of my creative outlets would be sewing, or something to do with a needle and thread. The act of sewing always gave me an image of a spider weaving its web.
I have a deep fascination with spiders and the way they weave their web, the patters and structures they can create! The way some species of spiders are blind but capture their prey with precision, by feeling the vibration created by their preys movement on its web. How black widows eat their partners, Or how spiders just look so alien like! There's something about spiders that call out to my shadows, my delicious darker aspects. Amongst this fascination, is also a fear of spiders, which, by force and will, I will tackle because I know there is nothing to fear, even, and especially, in darkness.
When I took my first step, or more so first weaving of the needle and thread through material, for the first time, I thought of Anansi; the spider God, He who owns all stories. Through bead embroidery I tap into Anansis web and hear stories, get guidance and hear wisdom from cosmic energies and spiritual masters. I harness universal powers and sew them into my creation. Each embroidery piece has its own "web" its own story, its own energy, its own thoughts and feelings, its own prayers, spells and intention. Hop on the web - get connected with each piece and allow it to talk to you, to share its energy, to tell you its story.
On a quantum level, Anansi's web is what connects everything! Its string theory, quantum entanglement, the 10th dimension - where everything is possible and imaginable- And this is why I call my embroidery pieces cosmetic jewellery, because I harness the energies of the universe and sew ("string") them into my art. Connecting the bead embroidery to universal energy. Allow thy thread to be gravity - the force that holds everything down and in place. Allow thy beads to be atoms, partials, waves, the vibrations that create.
